Granny is going to bankrupt the country, not the “under-62” welfare class.
This is a useful table: http://www.statisticbrain.com/welfare-statistics
Here, we learn that the total amount of welfare payments from the U.S. government, not counting food stamps and unemployment, is $158 billion. The total federal budget is $4 trillion.
Most welfare is not considered welfare: Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. They constitute about 50% of the U.S. government’s budget. But those who receive the welfare money insist: “It’s not welfare. I paid for this.” They did not pay a fraction of what they will receive.
The voters love welfare. They just don’t like to call it welfare. “I’m not one of those bloodsucking welfare cheats. I’m a taxpaying American.”
It’s not a case of the pot calling the kettle black. It’s a case of the flame-thrower calling the camp stove a fire hazard.
