The Department of Education released a fact sheet Monday about the availability of public school education for undocumented immigrant children — specifically the tens of thousands unaccompanied minors who have recently entered the U.S. illegally.
“We have begun to receive inquiries regarding educational services for a specific group of immigrant children who have been in the news – children from Central America who have recently crossed the U.S. – Mexico border,” the Department of Education explains.
“This new fact sheet provides information to help education leaders better understand the responsibilities of States and local educational agencies (LEAs) in connection with such students, and the existing resources available to help educate all immigrant students – including children who recently arrived in the United States,” it adds.
The fact sheet lays out the basics about the undocumented immigrant children’s rights and what communities can do to help with enrollment.
“All children in the United States are entitled to equal access to a public elementary and secondary education, regardless of their or their parents’ actual or perceived national origin, citizenship, or immigration status,” the fact sheet explains. “This includes recently arrived unaccompanied children, who are in immigration proceedings while residing in local communities with a parent, family member, or other appropriate adult sponsor.”

The Department of Education is yet another government agency that needs to be shut down.
My grandson informed me that a month before he graduated High School here in San Francisco, there was a large number of new students who showed up in his classes. These students were of hispanic decent and not one of them spoke our language. This was before the current invasion at our southern border started getting the news coverage it deserved. That's why I've been asking people to investigate what is going on here in this city of Pelosi. Doesn't seem to be much interest.

Odd….we send hundreds of millions of dollars in foreign aid to these illegal's countries of origin that's supposed to include education and yet they come here looking for free education? So we're paying for this twice? And where does this "fact sheet" get the idea that illegal immigrant children "have a right", and "are entitled to" a free education??

It is the law. They must be allowed to go to public school. This is again another exploitation of a law not being used as intended. The law was passed with the children of seasonal Mexican workers in mind. It was considered not a good idea to have them just hanging around the streets during the day while their parents worked. The ;law provides for basic education. It does not require services which illegal alien supporters are already clamoring for. The claim is that the children cannot be educated unless their underlying problems are addressed. There are now calls for psychological and mental services due to "what these children have been through and are facing." School districts should be firm and not allow themselves to be pressured to give services. In Montgomery County Maryland today, there are multi-million dollar health care clinics built and maintained in elementary, middle, and high schools for illegal alien children and their families as well as the costly "Maryland Cares" health care clinics in key areas of the of the county with high illegal alien populations. The reason these exists is because illegal aliens were filling hospital emergency rooms with minor ailments such as children with sniffles while Maryland citizens, with serious medical needs, were being forced to wait hours for service. Of course, the illegals came to the emergency rooms because they could get free care there. Several organizations press citizens to contribute for illegals' school supplies. School systems should hire attorneys to review the governing law against the government fact sheets as well as the demands from illegal alien supporters. They then should prepare to litigate if necessary and not be cowed. Litigation may be costly but giving into the demands will be far more costly first in funds expended and in then in the damage done to American students from funds being illegally directed to the support and benefit of illegal aliens.
Because our politicians are only out for votes. They could care less that these illegals are a burden to us Americans. Not only monetarily but on social and criminal issues. If Obama gets his way, it might come to that. Not only open borders but open homes too. Nothing is too good for Obama's illegals. I say DEPORT ALL ILLEGALS. Somebody has to write/email/call Montgomery County in Maryland. They are encouraging more illegals to come. I also read that Chelsea, Mass welcomed the UAC's with open arms. How stupid can people be?
True, most politicians probably send their kids to private schools, where their money and prestige buy them a better education for their own kids. We cannot afford to educate these kids. This is crazy. I plan to homeschool my grandson, as the schools will not be fit to be in by the time he goes.

Stop DC welfare, the states know what they need, and different states have different needs. All education should be under state control, you have what you can afford!
Our federal laws about public education need to be reversed. The US Department of Education needs to be abolished and returned to the states. Government has a blank check and spends at will without regard to the tax payers. This will only get worse. We need to take care of citizens first and return illegals back to their homeland so that they can apply for citizenship and enter through the front door. As far as San Francisco goes, it operates as a Republic of its own. Forget about Ms. Pelosi, she is tuned out.

Aren’t government-run schools reimbursed (paid) according to their average daily attendance? And don’t government-run schools train the youth to be good collectivists? . . . . So, why should we be surprised that bureaucrats and politicians want every available immigrant placed in government-run schools.

I got an email the other day and it said there were 75 countries who have sent Illegal Immigrants into the US and it is time the American people rose up and stood up for the American people's education. If I had the money I would have gone to college, but as a poor white girl who had a mother and dadduy who cared nothing for them. My dad drank all us money up and mom didn't work and cared nothing about any of her children, so there fore we had no money.
