Deficits Under Obama: 5 of the 6 Largest

Written by Gary North on October 31, 2013

President Obama so far has presided over five of the six largest annual budget deficits that the U.S. government has ever run.

Fiscal 2013 ended ended on Sept. 30. The deficit was $680 billion.

In fiscal 2012, the deficit was $1.1 trillion.

In fiscal 2011, it was $1.3 trillion.

In fiscal 2010, it was $1.3 trillion.

In fiscal 2009, it was $1.4 trillion.

Adjusted for price inflation, the $680 billion fiscal 2013 deficit is only exceeded by the deficit the U.S. government ran in 1943 in World War II. That year, the deficit was $55 billion, or $744 billion in inflation-adjusted 2013 dollars.

  1. Phillip the Bruce says:

So Obama is the worst "Big Spender." But besides him, how does W rate?

  2. 2warabnvet says:

Only five? Obviously, Obama has to work harder.

  3. Pesky history. Gary, did you forget already who ran that deficit up?

Also, haven’t you noticed that it’s going DOWN by hundreds of billions of dollars? He’s fixing Bush’s mess. Thanks for proving it.

  4. At least the trend is lowering the deficits. Now quit giving non-citizens refunds of the money citizens have paid in. Whose lame brained idea was that? That's the whole amnesty push. They just want our money.

  5. james.hutchins says:

If you think "Gary" was/is an apologist for W, you are a terribly uninformed dolt.

  6. "Also, haven't you noticed that it's going DOWN by hundreds of billions of dollars?"

A more honest statement would be to say haven't you noticed that its going DOWN by minute fractions?

Because that is all hundred of billions of dollars are, Shane, when we are talking about trillions.

Every trillion added to the deficit each year is a deeper hole.

  7. Comparing W to Obama on the deficit is like comparing Hitler to Stalin in pogrom victims. Hitler killed fewer than Stalin, but the number two spot isn't too cozy. On the other hand, would comparing Obama to W be any beter apologetic for Obama, than comparing Hitler to Stalin does for Obama?

  8. If federal payments to noncitizens were cut off, Obama would have to support his illegal alien relatives on his measly salary as POTUS.
