Drudge Poll: 91% Say “Stay Out of Syria.”

Written by Gary North on September 3, 2013

“GIVE OBAMA AUTHORITY TO CONDUCT MILITARY OPERATIONS IN SYRIA?” This is not a scientific poll, but Obama’s spinmeisters had better pay attention to it.

Obama drew a macho-man line in the sand with his vow to take action if Syria used chemical weapons. Now John Kerry says on Obama’s behalf that Syria’s government used chemical weapons.

Then the British government said “No fig leaf from us.” Cameron promptly backed down. This leaves Obama with only the socialist government of France in his camp. That is not much of a fig leaf.

What’s a would-be macho guy to do? Go to Congress?

Yes, say the voters.

What will Congress do? It will put its collective finger in the wind.

The general public seems split.

Fifty percent of Americans believe the U.S. should not intervene in the wake of suspected chemical weapons attacks by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, according to the poll. But the public is more supportive of military action when it’s limited to launching cruise missiles from U.S. naval ships — 50 percent favor that kind of intervention, while 44 percent oppose it.

So, as long as American missiles kill innocent Syrian women and children from on high, half of the voters are content. After all, Assad’s weapons killed innocent women and children. Half the voters think the proper response is an eye for an eye: more dead women and children. That will show Assad who is in charge.

Assad will then go before the Syrian public and rally support for his cause by blaming the deaths of women and children on false flag Al Qaeda terrorists in the rebel camp, plus airstrikes by the United States. That story will sell, because half of it will be incontrovertibly true: American air strikes.

  1. This is what happens when a wuss tries to prove his manhood. People snicker and those that he confronts stare him down. Next step, go hide behind mommy's skirt if you're a little kid. Or congress, if you're President. This is just another reason that this great country has lost the respect of the world. See my blog at http://cranky-conservative.blogspot.com

  2. Phillip the Bruce says:

And what if the cruise missiles successfully hit Assad's alleged stockpile of chemical weapons? Are they destroyed, or are they released into the atmosphere?
Of course the Amerikan Gunverment probably knows there is no stockpile, so no danger of inadvertant release. But what then is the real intended target?
And how hypocritical can the US be re: chemical weapons when it was they who gave such to Saddam Hussein to use against Iran back in the 80's?

  3. Seymour Kleerly says:

After our deceptive and horrific blunder into Iraq, it will take some time for the USA. to regain the worlds trust.

  4. Bill Smith says:

Don’t ever trust, just verify the hell out of everything!

  5. How can a nation that believes in the “separation of church and state “ even consider involvement in a religious war 7000 miles from its shore?

  6. The best comment I have seen! We only believe what is convenient at the time, and right now the time is convenient for the big money interests to make more money. The ordinary people and the taxpayers can go to hell, just ask Republican MCCain and Democrat Obama. Anyone who belives that there is a difference in Reps and Dems needs to check in at the nearest asylum.

  7. Which is "old news", Seymour.

Many of us who are not "progressive" opposed Bush's invasion. We oppose Obama's State sponsored terrorism (the use of force or violence to achieve political ends) today.

Why not help us out, even if it's a "progressive" President this time around who wants to "act tough" with other people's lives?

  8. Seymour Kleerly says:

An American President should act and be tough. Smart tough, not "Bring it on tough"!

  9. If they had polled the Bilderberg members, arms dealsrs, you would have found that 100% of them WANT war. They have NO IDEA that they are bringing about the battle of Armagaeddon. But then, they don't believe in the Bible or God.

  10. I saw an earlier poll by Newsmax in which 85% disapproved. Even the " main scream media " polls show 60%+ disapprove. Even if it can be rroved beyond a doubt that Assad's regime did this, we have no horse in this race. Both sides are virulently anti-American. Whichever side " wins ," it is not a plus for the U.S.A.

  11. Hmmm…91% against. Isn't this about the same percentage that was against TARP? Looks like another measure to be rammed down our throats by our "betters".
