Obama vs. House Republicans: “Nuclear War”

Written by Gary North on August 30, 2013

Sometimes, I get excited. What if this plays out?

The House of Representatives may decide to let Obama’s immigration reform bill die. The House doesn’t kill it. It just lets it sit.

This caught my attention: an article with the catchy title, “Obama’s Immigration Nuclear Option: Stopping Deportations Unilaterally.”

When it comes to the idea of a political nuclear war between the President and the House of Representatives, I get all tingly.

If that happens, advocates of immigration reform have another idea: They’ll push Obama to press the button on the immigration-reform nuclear option.

The option commonly referred to by immigration reformers as “Plan B” would see the president take executive action to prevent undocumented immigrants from being deported — along the lines of the deferred-action program the administration created for “Dreamers” last year. It wouldn’t be a panacea, and it wouldn’t give them citizenship. But such an action could at least spare some from the constant threat of deportation. And perhaps just as important, it could exact major political revenge on Republicans, galvanizing the Hispanic electorate against them and further hurting their image with the fastest-growing segment of voters.

By now, you know the phrase “undocumented immigrants” is MediaSpeak for “illegal aliens.”

Obama does not have to enforce the deportation law. He can just sort of forget to enforce it. That would be round one of the “nuclear option.”

But that might not end it. Spending bills must originate in the House of Representatives, according to the U.S. Constitution. (You remember the Constitution, don’t you? That’s the document that says that Congress must declare all wars.) The House might sort of forget to provide any funding for the laws that President Obama decides to enforce.

What would be President Obama’s nuclear response? How could he force the House to provide the funding?

He could get out his teleprompter and deliver a speech against the House for not funding the laws of the land. Then Boehner could do a YouTube video on enforcing the laws against illegal aliens.

Then Obama could threaten to tell the Secretary of the Treasury to stop cooking the books and admit that the debt ceiling was breached on June 1 — something the President has refused to do.

Then the federal government would shut down.

That’s why I get all  tingly.

I don’t think it will come to nuclear war. One side or the other will surrender. Obama and Boehner are both very good at strategic capitulations. It’s President Sequester vs. Congressman TARP. Both of them are willing to eat a mud sandwich or two.

What we need is a viable 3rd party. Republicans are just the other side of the same corrupt coin.

  2. You got that right…..still illegal is illegal….this poor country is swirling the bowl!!! It has become so crazy I can't even comprehend it anymore.

  3. David Kappeler says:

    Palin 2016!!!

  4. Phillip the Bruce says:

I am just as opposed to immigrants coming here and taking advantage of tax-funded benefits as anyone. In fact I am also opposed to citizens taking advantage of tax-funded benefits. But the question that seems to be forgotten in the "illegal alien" situation is: "Who says they are illegal and on what basis?" The Constitution gives the federal government NO authority to regulate immigration. According to the 10th Amendment, that leaves it up to the States. This was the situation up until the 1920's. What changed, and why?

Fun to think about except for one thing: "The House doesn't even read the budget. I've never seen a copy of the US budget," Ron Paul said.

Bureaucrats are in charge. Not POTUS and not Congress. The men and women behind the curtain are the puppet masters. You can't change things if you don't know who makes the rules in the first place. Obama and Boehner and Weiner are actors on a stage. Bad actors. On a very expensive stage. Bigger fish to fry.

  6. I was not a fan of H. Truman, but surely admired his "The buck ends here" stance. He stood up for what he truly believed. Also, learn about how he and Bess left D.C. (in their own car) and no pension until he was awarded one (25,000, I believe) much later. No apologies for what he did, and no apologies to other countries.

  7. The government is not just cooking the books on the debt ceiling. We have depression-era levels of unemployment, record homelessness, record number of Americans on food stamps….oh, sorry, SNAP cards. If Washington decides to "go it alone" on a Syrian strike, the price of oil will put the final stake in the heart of the teetering US economy and we will have the crash that both parties seem to be pushing for.

  8. No we don't. ALL U.S. political parties have been infiltrated by the globalists bent on dissolving our border and destroying U.S. sovereignty. Far better would be to BAN ALL POLITICAL PARTIES BY LAW. Thereby forcing all candidates to run as Independents solely on their own records and the issues.

Gary Johnson is a globalist fraud rated by non-partisan NumbersUSA almost as bad as Obama on immigration. Obama an F minus, Johnson an F.

Johnson also supports leftwing politically-correct agendas, and inventing rights not found under the Constitution. He even advocates forcing states to accept a national federal law to force them to allow homosexuals to change the heterosexual definition of marriage handed down to us by our ancestors.

A homosexual man has THE EXACT SAME RIGHT under the Constitution to marry a woman. But the fact that he does not wish to avail himself of that right doesn't create for him another right: to change the definition of marriage.

  9. Truman was a mixed bag. Some things he did he was right. But others he failed BIG TIME. Like how Truman [who took over for FDR] stopped Patton from liberating East Germany and all other European countries up to the Russian border. Then he pulled a similar stunt ordering MacArthur not to liberate N. Korea.

  10. A foreigner who sneaks into the U.S. to pillage and plunder it economically and otherwise is an INVADER, not an immigrant.
This is about DOMESTIC NATIONAL DEFENSE against a foreign invasion.
Anyone with an IQ above that of a turnip should be able to realize that amnesty would only serve to attract millions more job-stealing illegals here.
The ONLY way to stop the illegal alien invasion: MAKE THINGS AS TOUGH AS POSSIBLE on the illegals, so they will self-deport back to Mexico, etc. at their own expense because they get to hate it here so much. We certainly can't afford to deport over 20 million illegals. Plus most would only come right back if we tried.

  11. Bill Smith says:

“Undocumented immigrants” are getting a free pass but if I walk into a bank wearing a mask to make an “undocumented withdrawal”, the FBI, state police, county sheriff, and the local Barney Fife will be looking for me.

  12. Oh dear, another "birther". I'm no fan of Obama — or his predecessor Bush for that matter — but this "fake birth certificate" is a complete nonstarter at this stage. He was vetted by the DNC; Hillary didn't make a stink when she was running just as hard for the nod as he was; he is into a SECOND term as president. Give it up.

How about criticizing him on a valid issue, such as he's just in way over his head and incompetent to be president? In 2007 he was pledging to: stop the wars, bring the troops home, jail the Wall Street banksters, bring jobs back to America, make government more transparent….how's he scored on any of those promises?

  13. Oh dear, another usurper-supporter thinking calling a TRUTHER a "birther" somehow makes the truth a lie.

Tell us, were you really too stupid to follow the simple instructions in the video I provided, or are you just pretending to be THAT stupid?

  14. WhiteFalcon says:

An interesting idea that wil never happen. It takes power away from the political parties, and since between the two of them they have all the power, it will never happen.

  15. Brave Native says:

It would make candidates too ambiguous. Any one could keep a "secret" until elected then spring some insane policy on us. Its the Muslim way. Say anything to get into power then strong arm your agenda down our throats.

  16. so, what's left? – How about the country uniting and having a one day "Freedom From Tyranny" work stoppage! How about a national 1 hour "stop your vehicle where you are protest!" We, the people will have to start some civil disobedience to garner these communist lilliputians attention and make them realize that indeed we have had enough! They constantly show nothing more than utter contempt towards the sheeple and I can't blame them because we do nothing! – action speaks louder than words. What we now have is "US" fearing them = TYRANNY, what we need is them fearing "US" = LIBERTY! WAKE UP, WISE UP, RISE UP or become slaves of the State!

  17. I have to disagree! We don't have an illegal immigration problem, at all. We have an illegal welfare problem!

Gov't supplied welfare is killing this country! It saps out our productivity and strength. Anyone who wants to start at the bottom and work should be welcome – but absolutely no freebies!

  18. Republicans will cave – again – as always. They love to play the game, but are not willing to pay the price. So the game goes on and on…..

  19. Evermyrtle says:

I just hope the Congress will wake up, before it is too late to do anything, and that the citizens will support them instead sitting back afraid to raise our voices, afraid to disagree with what is going on in our country, with Muslims taking over. We also need to support Israel, the tiny country that our Senate, the acting president, and the world want to destroy. They only have GOD, themselves and Christians to depend on. The Word says in Matthew 10:22And ye shall be hated of all men for my name;s sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved

  20. Uhhh? You mean like what BHO did ?
    Surely you don't think he's a muslim..

  21. ken1lutheran says:

Banning political parties? How do you propose to do that, short of repealing the First Amendment?

  22. Tncdel: sounds like you have done only half of the required research. Keep searching!

  23. Just another troll. Words always fail you and you always resort to the name calling. So predictable.

  24. ??? Were you projecting? YOU were the first to resort to name-calling. Oh, that's right, I forgot, you're a leftwinger, and leftwing hypocrisy rules say they can do the same thing they criticize others for.

  25. Sounds like you're presuming too much.

  26. deniseandros says:

    Shabbat Shalom tncdel,
    Brilliant! Brilliant! Brilliant!
As for marriage, I believe that it was the GOD of Israel who conceived, and instituted, the covenant of marriage. I wonder why the godless, and the enemies of GOD should even want to take part in this sacred union.

  27. AD Roberts says:

Boehner will CAVE again. Then it will be time to remove him from his position as Speaker.

  28. They are all working toward and hoping for that "New world order", and darn few will be glad that they got it, after the fact. A good many of the possible replacements, (should we get smart enough to figure out how to dump all of them, and start over) would soon decide that they too would like to see this "wonderful thing", the New World Order, that the Christian bible warns us against.

  29. My comment is no different than "tncdel" to whom I am replying … just stated differently adding MHO. "Why" do you continually, flash me messages that you MUST approve what I comment before posting? Do you do that to everyone???

  30. HolyShirt says:

Young, know-it-all Barry Soetoro collected college tuition assstance restricted to foreign students. That adult act renounced whatever U.S. Citizenship he possessed. Getting it back requires Naturalization. Naturalized citizens are ineligible to the office of President of the United States.

  32. Danno, you have no idea what might have been said to Hillary behind the DNC scenes. She might've been made an offer she couldn't refuse. I definitely wouldn't use the fact that she didn't make a public stink about it as any evidence that the current holder of the oval office is legit.

  33. And I sure wouldn't use the fact that Barry was "vetted by the DNC" as any evidence for anything at all! Haha, vetted by the DNC! Stop it, you're killing me!!

  34. Bob Marshall says:

There will be a New World Order. It cannot happen without the United States. It will change America's conception. Henry Kissinger.

  35. Please provide proof that " Barry Soetoro collected college tuition assistance restricted to foreign students." and that he is now Barack Obama, President of the United States of America. Thank you!

  36. Dear patriots. We must not allow Speaker Boehner to pass ANY immigration bill in the House before the Nov. 2014 election. Harry Reid has said it best. Any House immigration bill will bring the issue into "conference" and to amnesty, guaranteed.
We are the first group of Tea Partiers and Legal Immigration groups in the nation to sponsor a campaign to leave the GOP if Boehner allow an immigration bill to pass the House. We need your help. Add your organization to the list and personally take the pledge. Go here now http://www.BoehnerGOPExodus.com Get all local patriot groups opposed to amnesty and the loss of our small limited powers republic as a sponsor and get their members to take the pledge. http://www.BoehnerGOPExodus.com

  37. AD Roberts says:

If he refuses to do his job and enforce the laws, he should be IMPEACHED for breaking his oath of office. That should have happened when he refused to enforce DOMA, and when he had Holder sue Arizona.
Refusal to do his job is:
    1. An indication that he is trying to be dictator
    2. Impeachable offenses

  38. We have seen this before.

Reid bluffed. McCain and Graham folded.
Now Obama will bluff. Boehner will fold.

At least that is what they will tell you. Actually, these RINOs aer complicit and are just pretending to resist Obama and Reid.
