This Is the Largest Gun Control Lobby in the United States.

Written by Gary North on August 7, 2013

It is Mayors Against Illegal Guns. It is New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s organization. It claims this:

Since its creation in April 2006, Mayors Against Illegal Guns has grown from 15 members to more than 900 mayors from across the country. We have more than 1.5 million grassroots supporters, making us the largest gun violence prevention advocacy organization in the country. The bipartisan coalition, co-chaired by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino, has united the nation’s mayors around these common goals: protecting communities by holding gun offenders accountable; demanding access to crime gun trace data that is critical to law enforcement efforts to combat gun trafficking; and working with legislators to fix weaknesses and loopholes in the law that make it far too easy for criminals and other dangerous people to get guns.

It says it opposes gun violence. This means it opposes the ability of law-abiding citizens to be able to arm themselves. It means that criminals, who always evade such laws — they are criminals, after all — will have a monopoly on gun ownership.

The organization is politically weak. It could not even persuade the Senate to support a bill favoring increased background checks in April. This upset the Nanny.

Today’s vote is a damning indictment of the stranglehold that special interests have on Washington. More than 40 U.S. senators would rather turn their backs on the 90 percent of Americans who support comprehensive background checks than buck the increasingly extremist wing of the gun lobby. Democrats – who are so quick to blame Republicans for our broken gun laws – could not stand united. And Republicans – who are so quick to blame Democrats for not being tough enough on crime – handed criminals a huge victory, by preserving their ability to buy guns illegally at gun shows and online and keeping the illegal trafficking market well-fed. Senators Manchin and Toomey – as well as Majority Leader Reid and Senators Schumer, Kirk, Collins, McCain and others – deserve real credit for coming together around a compromise bill that struck a fair balance, and President Obama and Vice-President Biden deserve credit for their leadership since the Sandy Hook massacre. But even with some bi-partisan support, a common-sense public safety reform died in the U.S. Senate at the hands of those who are more interested in attempting to protect their own political careers – or some false sense of ideological purity – than protecting the lives of innocent Americans. The only silver lining is that we now know who refuses to stand with the 90 percent of Americans – and in 2014, our ever-expanding coalition of supporters will work to make sure that voters don’t forget.”

So, Nanny B. knows who refused to vote for gun control. He threatened retaliation in 2014: “. . . our ever-expanding coalition of supporters will work to make sure that voters don’t forget.”

I think the Democrats who folded understand politics in their states. That is why they folded.

Here is the answer to their ( the gun control crowd) arguments; one that they know is really the peoples mainstay: http://modernmilitiamovement.com

  2. sjbbouton says:

All sour grapes from a bunch of losers. If gun control was the answer, Chicago should be the safest city in America. Surprise! These losers are just using gun control as a smoke screen to cover their own failures to curb crime.

  3. jmsmaxwell says:

Their claim is bogus like their lack of ability to balance a budget for their cities. 900 mayors do not equate to 1.5 millions
supporters not matter what fuzz math they use. It still means that there are only 900 mayors who have signed on to their
utopian scam and they are primarily in the Northeast, Cali and a few other bastions of liberalism controlled by utopian dreamers. No matter what they claim they cannot say that all their citizens agree with them nor support them. If they
actually had 1.5 million supporters then they would have political clout based upon sheer numbers along. Just more fancy
bookkeeping to further their claims and try to boost their relevance on the scene. If they had to provide actual members that
could be verified then the truth would be far less and I doubt many would want their political leaning known to others.

  4. Listen to a radio interview conducted by Larry Pratt (Executive Director of Gun Owners of America) regarding the God-expected responsibility to bear arms in defense of ourselves, our families, and neighbors (which will always trump groups like Mayors Against Illegal Guns) versus optional rights, which are easily limited, licensed, and controlled by whatever government happens to be in control at any given time. I think you'll find Mr. Pratt's remarks especially interesting.

You can access the interview at http://www.bibleversusconstitution.com/#FeaturedM….

  5. Guns are not illegal, some people have lost their right to own them. What is illegal are politicians denying our Constitutional
right to posess them and defend ourselves.

  6. Mayor Bloomberg is showing us, once again, that the road to Perdition is paved with the best of intentions.

  7. grumpy old man says:

The United States is 3rd in Murders throughout the World.

But if you takeout Chicago, Detroit, Washington DC and New Orleans out of the picture,
the United States is 3rd from the Bottom on a list of 216 countries for Murders.

These 4 Cities have the toughest Gun Control Laws in the United States .
These cities are also run by DEMOCRATS! Imagine that.

Not only are these cities currently run by Democrats, but they have been run by Democrats since they became cities.

The ultimate stupidity is to continue voting for the same Politicians/Party and expect a different result.

  8. Dear Grumpy: Do you have a source for this information you could share?
Are you just looking at the FBI data and subtracting those cities? What are you then comparing that to to get the new ranking?

    Thanks.

  9. Johnthelibertarian says:

while I appreciate the link, it's important to band together to get the enabling legislation enacted on the STATE LEVEL to reinstitute the CONSTITUTIONAL militia as advocated by Edwin Vieira in his 2 books— they can't go after peaceable individuals just seeking constitutional militias, but they can AND WILL private militias unrecognized by state or constitutional law… bottom line: read Vieira, and get started reinstating CONSTITUTIONALLY RECOGNIZED militias

  10. Johnthelibertarian says:

just like their bogus claim that 90% of Americans want universal back round checks when they fail to tell the surveyed Americans that that will REQUIRE UNIVERSAL REGISTRATION and possible [probable/ CERTAIN??? CONFISCATION] from bloomberg who has ARMED bodyguards, but wants to DENY US the right to protect the lives of our loved ones, or our own… what a slimy lying hypocrite

  11. Captain Jack says:

If you check on page 36 (the back), of the July 26, 2013 issue of the "The Washington Times" National Weekly.
You will find a display of 18 Mayors (members of Micheal Bloomberg's group) & their crimes.
Ranging assault to sex crimes. In short a fine group indeed !

  12. Unfortunatelyk, the politicians in Washington D.C. answer only to the voting blocs in major cities, which themelves have criminal governments.

  13. Guest,

Bloomberg is guilty of many things, but having "the best of intentions" is NOT one of them.

  14. Statistics show that states which allow non-criminal citizens to own pistols–carry or in their homes and cars–have a lower crime rate.

  15. It's founding leader is also, among other things, one who has been involved in conspiracy to violate federal law, Bloomberg having hired "private detectives" as they were sometimes described, to go about the country, purchasing guns from licensed dealers, these purchases possibly constituting a violation of existing federal law.

Otherwise, re Bloomberg's anti gun opinions, public position, he has the right to his own opinions, though not to his own facts, an observation attributed to the late Daniel Patrick Moynihan, formerly a U.S. Senator from New York State. Funny thing about this is the following. Like so many in public life, he enjoys the protection of armed body guards, paid for by others. While enjoying public largess, he would deny to Mr. and Mrs. Every Person, the ability to act in their own defense, should the need arise, via the accomplishment of his anti gun/anti gun rights desires. Of course, only the law abiding would be so effected or afflicted, which might be a more accurate choice of word. The level of Double-Talk that surrounds Bloomberg and others of his ilk is difficult to tolerate.

  16. cbanalyst says:

You can bet that the Mayors live in gated communities, guarded by armed officers.

  17. WhiteFalcon says:

Bloomberg is the biggest pro gun violence advocate in the US, and as shcu he should have a special place in prison as far as I'm concerned.

  18. Are those states by any chance Democratic?
