Warning: Dragon “Naturally Speaking” Premium Version 12.5 Has a Major Glitch.

Written by Gary North on June 11, 2013

I use Nuance’s Naturally Speaking for some tasks. It is voice-activated dictation software. It is reasonably accurate, although I must proofread the results like a hawk. Actually, I have a proofreader do this for me. Even so, mistakes get through. My subscribers then let me know about them.

The program has a major problem. If I forget to shut it down, it locks up permanently. I must shut down my computer and reboot to get access to it again. I get this message:

DragonGlitch

This message never goes away.

So, if you use the program, don’t forget to close it after you are finished using it.

  1. Some of us do not turn off the lights when we leave a room. We leave them on until middle age when our children return home and turn them off believing they are turning them on.

    In the rare possibility that you might not be familiar with the Task Manager, try the following:

    Right Click the Task Bar;
    Left Click Task Manager in menu selections; Make sure you have Applications Tab selected;
    Leftt Click the message you're trying to remove;
    It might come up with a message that selection is not responding and ask if you want to end know.
    Click OK.

    It's ben a big help to me.

  3. I have used Dragon for many years and EACH version seems to have problems such as this. For example, if you don't turn off the microphone and it sits in an idle state for a while, it clams up, stops syncing with your voice properly, and I have to shut it down through the Ctrl-Alt-Del system thingy and start it again. On a day that is an all-writing day, this happens about four times. What a hassle. Yes, obviously we need the benefits enough to put up with the hassle but there is not one other program I use that is as bad as Dragon has been for version after version. I'm a high-tech guy also with the latest and greatest hardware, all my system is all updated constantly. It's Dragon.

  4. When you have a version of software that is working for you, NEVER update until you have let many others find out about, and report on the new problems that will surely arise. I f you do update, make sure and maintain the old version separately until you are sure the switch will not raise your blood pressure to dangerous levels! 🙂 Article read and comment posted from Firefox 13.01 – all my add-ons cooperate nicely with this version, so the first thing I do upon installation is turn off automatic updates. That goes for the OS as well. If it's not broke, DON'T FIX IT! My 2 cents

    AMEN!! You’re preaching to the choir here. As a friend of mine once said… “don’t trust nobody!”

  6. That was priceless.

    Looks like you need a proof reader!

    I prefer using ctrl-shift-esc as it is faster.
