Camp FEMA: The Dress Rehearsal

Written by Gary North on November 12, 2012

Mark Slavo has done yeoman service in reporting this. It relates to FEMA’s response to Hurricane Sandy. I hope it gets a wide hearing.

Though details are scarce and media coverage has been completely restricted by officials, stories of what victims of Hurricane Sandy are experiencing at the hands of the Federal Emergency Management Agency in the wake of the storm have begun to emerge.

The few available images from these so-called “tent cities” suggest that Camp FEMA isn’t all it’s cut out to be, with one resident using some choice words to describe how FEMA and the Red Cross have completely failed at their jobs.

…made an announcement that they were sending us to permanent structures up here that had just been redone, that had washing machines and hot showers and steady electric, and they sent us to tent city. We got fucked.

Via The Daily Sheeple

In other such tent cities the conditions are about as bad as you can describe them; on the order of third-world refugee camp, or worse:

One reason: the information blackout. Outside of the tightly guarded community on Friday, word was spreading that the Department of Human Services would aim to move residents to the racetrack clubhouse on Saturday. The news came after photos of people bundled in blankets and parkas inside the tents circulated in the media.

But inside the tent city, which has room for thousands but was only sheltering a couple of hundred on Friday, no one had heard anything about a move – or about anything else. “They treat us like we’re prisoners,” says Ashley Sabol, 21, of Seaside Heights, New Jersey. “It’s bad to say, but we honestly feel like we’re in a concentration camp.“

Sabol, who is unemployed and whose rental home was washed away in the hurricane, remembers being woken up on Wednesday at the shelter she was staying in at Toms River High School. Conditions there were “actually fine,” said Sabol.

Sabol was told that she had half an hour to pack: everyone was getting shipped to hotels in Wildwood, New Jersey, where they would be able to re-acquaint themselves with showers, beds and a door.

Sabol and about 50 other people boarded a New Jersey Transit bus, which drove around, seemingly aimlessly, for hours. Worse, this week’s Nor’easter snow storm was gathering force, lashing the bus with wind and rain.

After four hours, the bus driver pulled into a dirt parking lot. The passengers were expecting a hotel with heat and maybe even a restaurant. Instead they saw a mini city of portable toilets and voluminous white tents with their flaps snapping in the wind. Inside, they got sheets, a rubbery pillow, a cot and one blanket.

There was no heat that night, and as temperatures dropped to freezing, people could start to see their breath. The gusts of wind blew snow and slush onto Sabol’s face as her cot was near the open tent flaps. She shivered. Her hands turned purple.

It has taken three days for the tents to get warm.

Access to the facilities has been restricted by armed guard. The same holds true for activities inside of the facilities, with guards posted around the clock.

The post-storm housing — a refugee camp on the grounds of the Monmouth Park racetrack – is in lockdown, with security guards at every door, including the showers.

No one is allowed to go anywhere without showing their I.D. Even to use the bathroom, “you have to show your badge,” said Amber Decamp, a 22-year-old whose rental was washed away in Seaside Heights, New Jersey.

The mini city has no cigarettes, no books, no magazines, no board games, no TVs, and no newspapers or radios. On Friday night, in front of the mess hall, which was serving fried chicken and out-of-the-box, just-add-water potatoes, a child was dancing and dancing — to nothing. “We’re starting to lose it,” said Decamp. “But we have nowhere else to go.”

In the aftermath of this disaster, as well as the Hurricane Katrina debacle, it should be clear where the government’s priorities are.

They’ll buy billions of rounds of ammunition and won’t hesitate to put 30,000 drones into the skies over America, but when it comes to helping Americans who have lost everything, they are woefully unprepared.

This begs the question, what happened to the hundreds of millions of emergency rations, emergency blankets and supplies that were supposedly regionalized by the Department of Homeland Security fully two years ago?

Their plan is to complete the supply of fifteen H.S. warehouses around the country in the next three months. Ms. Bylier is quoted as saying “we have worked hard the last six months to meet our local objectives.” She continued “the goals of Homeland Security are in sight.” It’s difficult to know if this is a good or bad omen. No comment was offered as to why this program has been given so much urgency at this time.

It’s nice to know we’re ready. But ready for What?

Yes, exactly. Ready for what?

  1. The call for military intervention and the subsequent acceptance of military authority over the domestic civilian population is just another crisis to be used to desensitise the public to military domestic authority.

  2. is it not the east coast that loves their prez so much? you get what you pay for.

  3. Their just waiting for obama and company to come up with a good reason why Sandy is Bush's fault, and its his FEMA, not obumass's. the only military I can see helping, would be the Army Corps (not corpse) of Engineers. They did yoemans work on Katrina.. the unions have the northeast locked up, so don't expect much from them. That includes the public unions as well.

  4. I feel sorry for these people, but at the same time I don't because they still voted for 4 more years of Obama and his failed policies. You voted for this, and you got what you asked for!

  5. barb patton says:

It is now time for an earthquake to happen in California – they are also the people that love the latte one – lets see what FEMA and the latte one does with such a catastrophic happening. Golf anyone????

  6. Nothing like a bad experience to make one realize they encouraged the wrong electoral party. Romney was right. Disband FEMA and let each state have its own disaster emergency plans. Where's Hillary in all this?

  7. Patriot1776 says:

Hillary is busy working on the UN gun treaty and hiding from the Bengahzi investigation. Obama is on the golf course, getting ready for vacations after his last four years of grueling campaigning. He will distance himself from the disasterous clean up so as not to be associated with it, it isn't his fault, the previous president left such a mess.

  8. F.E.M.A . Find Every Moron Available . This is what happens with a bunch of Government Morons
These are the same IDIOT"S that screwed everything they touched in New Orleans and from
the look of things they haven't learned anything from past experiences. Your Federal Tax Dollars
    at work .

  9. I totally agree with Susan K, Patriot1776,Patty,Bogusbob and jjudy! You get what you pay for! Many of us have seen it coming, others just go along with the masses. Well now that it’s too late, you are crying. So sorry for the suffering, but you do get what you paid for! Obama, I’m sorry to say, cares only for himself and what he can gain… NOT ..about our Nation!!! Do your homework next time..learn about the person you are supporting!!!

  10. DITTO: Those that voted for the little Hitler and his gang of cut throats are getting just what they voted for!

  11. DockyWocky says:

Remembering the old days at Belmar when beach access was only by paid badges, NJ ought to have a surfeit of experienced guards to check the refugees badges for access to the potties and showers.

In fact, New Jersey should be held up as the model state for implementing Broncobama's coming concentration camps.

  12. Obviously the government is not adequately capable of efficiently handling such massive disasters and they probably never will be. Government bureaucrats seem to almost always lack good management skills, not to mention common sense. Nevertheless, intervention is what most Americans expect, where else can masses of victims turn for help and refuge? Over all I don't think it is a bad thing for the government to want to intervene. However, I'm sure that many churches have opened up their doors, but even if there were adequate enough facilities and supplies for all, I doubt everyone would want to turn in that direction. I don't know much about the Red Cross, but I had the understanding that it was mainly a volunteer organization, so that complaint seems to fall upon the ears of the donors to push for better management, but I still think a thanks is appropriate. I do know that several Christian organizations responded immediately, including Convoy of Hope, but I don't know that any of them have the capability of providing shelter for 40,000 people. I think they limit their services to food.

  13. I am to the point that I don’t know what the believe because there are so many left and right reactionary articles about everything. I don’t trust the mainstream media since I know they are owned by control freaks that have silenced 45 news producers so that we are now down to just 5 out of 50. I read articles about massive voter fraud which I’, not sure are real or not. If they are then Øbama was not elected he was handed this reelection by some really creepy people that don’t believe we have a right to chose. All I know is that we need to be prepared for what’s coming. The smartest people in the world (the ones that can’t balance a checkbook or run a business) are running the country into the ground. These highly intelligent individuals are spending almost 4 trillion dollars a year while only taking in 2 trillion. These highly intelligent individuals are responsible for oversight of everything such as all these federal government departments and agencies. Everything I see so far tells me I could get a gang of 5th graders to do a better job than the current House and Senate members. They are playing us for fools, testing us every day to see how far they can push us before we snap. Then when it hits the fan you all will understand first hand what FEMA has been putting all our money in. I remember COG and I know that FEMA is far more worried about COG than any natural disaster. COG stands for Continuity Of Government. I remember a line from the movie Dr. Strangelove “20 million tops, depending on the breaks.” And I know for a fact our Federal Government employees could care less about your survival, they only worry about theirs.

  14. The disciples of Joseph Goebbels in the national media are suppressing the truth; only those of us here in the Tri-State area are getting a bit of this information on our local news. Lock'n'Load, America … and you owe Senator Joe McCarthy an apology.

"A people armed and free forms a barrier against the enterprises of ambition and is a bulwark for the nation against foreign invasion and domestic oppression."

    James Madison

  15. I have been explaining a very simple fact for some years now. Americans need to open their eyes to reality. We are experiencing the Boot of Marxism being shoved down on the neck of Americans freedoms and liberties. It really doesn't get easier than that.

  16. Bless2live says:

This fraud goverment does not care about America, just want it gone!

  17. "Those Who Sacrifice Liberty For Security Deserve Neither."

  18. This sounds like what Hitler did to the Jews in Germany. Told them they were being relocated to jobs and new housing when in reality it was concentration camps.

  19. Too bad we can't have a do-over election. It would have been nice had all of this come out pre-election instead of the stories about free gas and food.

  20. David in MA says:

Did anyone see the photo on T.V. that had a sign in a FEMA office which read, "CLOSED DUE TO STORM"?

  21. The Truth Seeker says:

What crap! Well Chicken Little, the sky did not fall. The country will survive and prosper. For all you who are crying crocodile tears for the zillionaires, get over it. For your information, the Koch Brothers, Trump, Adelson and their buddies believe in the following: separation of church and state, birth control, integration, choice, stem cell research, education and sensible immigration. For all of you-over-the hill clowns, it is, and has been, minorities and poor people who have done the cut work in this country since slaves were brought in from Africa, Chinese came in to do the railroads and the Irish, Italians and Jews worked in the factories and the building trades. So you flat-earth, white males, who are worried about the end of the Western World, please note that your vote for the GOP is for deregulation and low or no taxes for the rich. As I have noted, they could care less about your far out conspiracy theories, the Moon is not made of green cheese, their family values are not yours and they are not worried about the Constitution.

In fact, it was the Republicans who looked the other way when immigrants came across the borders to work for the minimum wage or cash for WalMart, big farms, big fast food chains, hospitals and lawn care services. These industries were not the province of the Democratic Party.

As to taxes, you clowns who benefit from the VA, Medicare, Medicaid, and deductions for local taxes and mortgage expenses would have had that all blown away or privatized so that the rich do not have to pay 3.5% on incomes over $250K per year if Romney and his gang had won.

But, who else are you carrying water for, can I guess? Your buddies want to do away with inheritance taxes, environmental regulations and turn health care back to the insurance companies who keep on raising premiums, deductibles and limit service. The average working person has seen his co-premium go to 25%, their deductible to $1000 and the company’s premium to $16K. So they owe $5K before their kid gets a booster shot.

So what have we learned? The public, aside from concerns over the economy have voted for president Obama, a Democratic Senate and many more votes for Democrats in the House. So come 2014, if your Tea Bag Brigade obstructionists, led by Grover Norquist and the Donald don’t wake up, they’ll be toast also.

In truth, the only shot you had was with a rich plutocrat like Romney, whose rich friends put up billions. But can you clowns really imagine losers like Bachmann, Cain or Perry being the nominee? They couldn’t have raised a red cent. How about the religious nut, who brought his dead still born child home for the kids? Santorum who was earning $1 million per year from the same companies he was carrying water for when he was a Senator? Did you know he lost be the largest margin of any incumbent US Senator in history? How about Gingrich, that lowlife, whose marriages, affairs and history of gaming the system, would have been a field day for the press?

So it is all over, get used to it. By the way, I assume these sites will also disappear as time goes on and no one really cares about the silliness that is fomented here.

  22. David in MA says:

You sat:"Obviously the government is not adequately capable of efficiently handling such massive disasters and they probably never will be."
I say:" They don't want to be, it's all part of destruction to any form of American response. They have to make everythhiing so bad that the people will embrace islamic marxism as the solution (to the problems they themselves commited)…JUST LIKE HITLER and a host of other dictators have done in the past. I swearm obozo has read Mein Kempf.

  23. We're all Palestinians now.

  24. Hucklebuck says:

Are those "badges" they're required to show yellow by any chance?

  25. Yup. Just like the TSA, it's not about safety it's about getting the sheep to accept being guilty and proving your not a terrorist rather than the other way around. Illegal search and seizure withoput authority. JUst anoth constitutional violation that is accepted by the sheep.

  26. They will never disband or defund fema…gotta keep the concentration camps ready for those who resist the Marxist dictator …all part of the plan…nice isn;t it to know the prez hates us this much and much of the government is on board so they can keep their cushy jobs in D.C. Keep yourselves prepared to take care of yourselves and your families…do not let them take you and yours to any of their camps…don't get on the bus or train or truck.

  27. That is just the kind of thinking that let Hitler rise to power and you have bought into it hook, line and sinker.

  28. Howard in Wyoming says:

The government and the Red Cross, no wonder nothing is working. Ask any GI from WW-II about the Red Cross. The organization that is needed is the Salvation Army. When i see a commercial to donate to the Red Cross I want to puke.

  29. A class-action suit is needed against FEMA.

  30. After Katrina, when FEMA was being castigated for supposedly miserably failing in their mission, I thought that they really didn't fail–in fact, they were probably a rip-roaring success. And once again, with Sandy, I see they're accomplishing their objectives like clockwork.

  31. So, as the saying goes, what would you suggest, Silverlips? What's your vision for this country? Please tell us. And don't be coy. Spell it out. Then we can compare our vision to yours. BTW, the Romney/RINO/corporatist/fascist faction you (rightly) denounce is in no way representative of this site's readership. But you can't be expected to know that.

  32. Southern Girl says:

Well Truth Seeker, obvious you have not found the "truth" yet. No, the sky has not fallen YET. The budget cuts that Romney proposed would have hurt, but tough times call for touch measures. Unlike, Obama and his crooked thugs who will continue to spend like a bunch of drunken sailors and throw our taxpayer money on his cronies who want to start up phoney green energy companies. And, how about the Benghazi mess? You people on the left are truly suffering from a mental disorder. Oh, and if you will study history you will know that the Democrats in the South are the ones who were racist and have suppressed the blacks. Now they are slaves to the government. If you will notice, most of the Southern states are now red. We have worked hard to overcome our Democrat/racist heritage. The educated blacks are leaving the Democrat party in droves as they can see the motivation behind the welfare programs. How about an Obama phone? Bet you have one already – you dumb ass!

  33. Ronny Merritt says:

I really feel bad for these people in the FEMA camp. But as I recall from the election returns, it seems to me that New Jersey is one of the states that Obama carried.

I guess that you get what you voted for.

  34. Bill McCroskey says:

My mother and father (my father served in Europe during WWll) would NEVER donate one dime to the Red Cross due to the way he saw them mismanage their assets during his stint in Europe. They have both passed on in recent years but I continue their legacy of not one DIME to any Red Cross fund drive.

  35. Duane Kowalski says:

They need an ID to *hit but not to vote! Can't have any illegal bathroom use! Enjoy the misery you put on the rest of this country you morons. If the Democraps hadn't been able to rig votong machines, have NAACP anfd Panthers violating election laws, have 47% of this country on food stamps (don't see a problem here?), and register dead voters all under cover by the media we wouldn't be stuck with this commie traitor.

  36. Three of of the four hardest-hit New Jersey coastal counties went solid Republican: Cape May, Ocean, and Monmouth Counties voted overwhelmingly for Romney. Suburban and rural Atlantic County also voted Republican but those votes were overshadowed by the welfare receivers in Atlantic City. New Jersey suburban and rural voters usually lean Republican as opposed to the large welfare population centers in Newark, Camden, Paterson, and majority Spanish-speaking Hudson County who always go Democrat. Unfortunately the Republican-leaning suburbs and shore communities are outnumbered.

  38. Thank GOD that this same government is going to be running our health care (?) Just what could go wrong. ha-ha-ha-ha-ha

  39. Bill Smith says:

  40. Idylewylde says:

NOT A GOVERNMENT CONSPIRACY … just fiscal lunacy.

sorry folks, Obama gave away all that stimulus money, we're broke, FEMA hasn't got a dime, and the MSM is covering up the horrible truth that Obama gave about as much concern for Sandy as he did for Lybia ……. no response.

When is everybody going to figure out that this clown can't balance a check book, and we're all still paying for his stimulus party on our bankrupt tax dollar.
FIscal idiocy is pandemic in the DNC. That idiot Bloomberg's idea of a crisis is whether his crutons were getting soggy … and then tried to host a marathon while people were still dying from DNC incompetence.
Obama and Bloomberg are two twisted peas in the same brain pod.

  41. Isn't it something how the SO CALLED Media are not plastering the news like they did w.katrina. If people don't notice the bias then they are beyond mindless fools

  42. I live in the east, and the reports about Fema are quite different out here..they are positive reports, specially from the hispanic radio, they praise Fema concerning the works in the Rockaway area

  43. They are the ones that voted this fraud back in for 4 more years. I hope they like the results now.

  44. Another problem the Jersey shore has, is the antiquated electrical system..New Jersey could be very old school, in one hand is cool and in the case of Sandy not so cool…It is rare the State where you can leave your car open..or your house…and be at peace..or where you can go get a hair cut with the same barber since 1957,,,,that is how it is around here….and we live at a 30 minutes drive from New York City…an Old school life style like that, is not ready for great catastrophes…

  45. One way to resolve all this garbage is for some Patriot to just "Do Him"…

  46. There are 800 FEMA camps that are sitting idle across the U.S. The government does not want to talk about them, and the media is not going to tell us. Just type into your computers the words FEMA Camps and you can be enlightened what the goverment has in store for us. Alex Jones has a documentary about the FEMA Camps at Inforwars.com.

  47. That's where you're wrong. The moon is made of green cheese. Moon, the word, unless it starts a sentence, shouldn't be capitalized. The only word that you must capitalized is your savior's name – Obama.

  48. Where do you get your info? What a buffoon! I can,t wait for them to come after you, and they WILL! You will be one of the first, you indoctrinated moron! Me yes they can have my guns barrel first. Lock and load friends and let this moron rot in one of the concentration camps.

  49. silverfish says:

I live in Pennsylvania and would never vote for this idiot Prez, but I live near Gettysburg. The problem we have is Philadelphia, York and Pittsburg. The population is mostly Dems and black. Just like in Maryland, they have Baltimore, Towson, Glen Burnie, large Dems and black population. I am so upset and have lost all HOPE. I truly don't know what is going to happen.

  50. “We have no tolerance for comments containing violence, racism, vulgarity, profanity, all caps, or discourteous behavior. Thank you for partnering with us to maintain a courteous and useful public environment where we can engage in reasonable discourse.”

PLEASE STOP THE CRAP! You put up with liberal behavior which is all of the above, even letting it make you lose the presidency to people who behave like that, but when it comes to us, YOU CAN’T STAND IT!

  52. So Sabol, let me ask you, who did you and your homies vote for? How's that Obama phone workin'?

It was never the responsibility of the government to do anything beyond defend our borders and see to it that we had a sound currency. They failed miserably at each. Pick yourselves up and dust yourselves off. Sandy was a bump in the road. Benghazi was something else. OK, I'll shut up now.

  53. The NDAA does away with the "illegal search and seizure" in the 5th amendment right? PHEH!!

  54. Or…maybe it's possible that BO AIMED this storm at white voters on the east coast using HAARP? Not that I believe HAARP can really do what they say it can, but it's been said of Bush that HE "caused" Katrina through HAARP to allededly eliminate blacks in the south, etc. So maybe now we can blame Sandy on BO? Just a thought.

  55. I certainly as a Californian DON"T "love the latte one"??? Freaking stoopid Jerry Brown and his new CalFire brush fire tax!! He's using the Board of Equalization to collect this extra "Fire tax" on people who live in rural areas. PHEH!!

  56. Like the Nazi's they'll just shoot us on the spot for resisting. Of course…….before I even get in line I'll be shooting at THEM first.

  57. The Truth Seeker says:

Moron they were conservative Dixiecrats, that's ancient history and their children are now Republicans. You forgot that fact! Blacks leaving the Democratic Party? What tripe do you tune into. It seemed that the Dems got all the large majorities of the groups that are growing in this country. Plus they had a double digit lead with women, who are 53% of the electorate. By the way, young women voted Democratic 3 to 1. So keep on drinking that 151 Rum!

  58. The Truth Seeker says:

Norbert – what do they call you for short Norby? He's not the savior, but President for four more years, tough to swallow,, moron!

  59. The Truth Seeker says:

Seems like you've peed on you body once too often. Can't stand the facts can you?

  60. Zillionaires? THERE AREN"T ANY. .. The ones you think you are talking about no longer exist. You are refering to Walmart execs who actually supply a service and pay their taxes. They are movie stars, which I'm not sure what service they supply except to distract those who are hungry. And your zillionairs now are called by O'Bama "those who are making $250,000 or more', which would be a doctor or nurse, or someone working for City of Memphis government. And who elected O'Bama?

  61. Those who want to sin and get stuff paid for by the working people. Those who wanted 'revenge' (O'Bama's word not mine) against some un-known adversary who 'kept them down'. When it was their lack of ambitiion and unwillingness to work that 'kept them donw'. It's easy for the lack-luster to be jealous of those who by their own wit, work and ambition were able to suceed in a world where those very attributes help one suceed. For those who were jealous, lustful for others 'stuff' and unwilling to take care of their own responsibilities, they are the ones who voted for O'Bama. Those of us who are having to pay for all their government handed out stuff didn't vote for him. We're tired of woking our rears off so the unsuccessful could continue to thrive. I thought the progressives were big Evolutionists? What is evolutionial about taking those who would not have succeeded and giving them the money of those who would? Where is the 'survival of the fittest' in that?

  62. No, this is leveling the playing field between those who are hard workers and those who refuse to work. And that only damages everyone. Those who would work will stop once they realize all the resouces they worked 15 to 20 hours a day to obtain are syphoned off to take care of the underachievers.

  63. Next Time?? What makes you think we will every get to vote again, on ANYTHING.

  64. John H Marsh says:

You must have your head up your ass!!!!!

  65. I don't know where you are from but you sure show your ignorance. Your generalization about who "we" in New York voted for is an insult. If it wasn't for New York City this would be a red state. Why don't you come up here and hand out some food or help clean up. Obama, Cuomo, and Bloomburg aren't going to do anything but blame someone else (LIPA) for their own gain. Most of us here know that government isn't and will never be the answer. Thanks for your compassion.

  66. I get what you're saying but if you think that Barack Obama is the one running this country (into the ground) think again. Check out the Illuminati and the Bilderberg Organization. This is ALL about the One World Order – why do you think he bypasses Congress and goes straight to the UN for foreign affairs now? It's not about the "stimulous" money – the stimulous money is all about destroying the American dollar – it's the only thing holding back a global union and as much as BO THINKS he's that powerful, he's not – he's just their do-boy.
