CIA Whistleblower Sentenced to Prison

Written by Gary North on October 25, 2012

If you are a CIA “asset,” and you torture a suspect, you will be officially transferred from your specialty if you get exposed. It would be bad PR to continue the policy.

The person whose testimony leads to your identification will go to jail. The only question is: for how long?

The whistleblower on waterboarding by the CIA — which of course America never indulges in, we assured by every President — will get two and a half years for pleading guilty to a lesser charge. He probably would have gotten life if he had not pleas bargained.

The whistleblower, John Kiriakou, did not mention the name of the waterboarder, but the government said that someone could have figured it out from the information he revealed.

Kriakou was at first charged with a violation of the Espionage Act of 1917. He had exposed  the Central Intelligence Agency’s use of waterboarding on alleged insurgents after September 11, 2001. Waterboarding was thought to be useful in converting alleged insurgents into confessed insurgents.

His lawyer made this statement. How does outing a torturer hurt the national security of the U.S.? It’s like arguing that outing a Nazi guarding a concentration camp would hurt the national security of Germany.”

The government prosecutors did not respond to thus question. They did not have to. He pleaded guilty.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a former government official told Firedoglake recently that the CIA was “totally ticked at Kiriakou for acknowledging the use of torture as state policy” and allegedly outing the identity of a covert CIA official “responsible for ensuring the execution” of the water-boarding program.

This is standard bureaucratic justice. The bureaucrats resent getting caught in full public view. He who exposes them is the enemy. The possibility that the practice is illegitimate never enters their collective minds.

The Espionage Act was passed during the enlightened and humane rule of Woodrow Wilson, the darling of liberals. It was part of his policy to lock up anyone who opposed the war. He won the 1916 for keeping us out of that war. Thirty days after his inauguration, he persuaded Congress to enter the war on the side of the British, who owed billions to J. P. Morgan Co. and other bond firms. The Wilson government then proceeded to lock up ministers who preached against the war.

You say you did not read this in your high school history textbook? I wonder why not.

Very good article generally, but please fix the typos and add back in the accidentally omitted missing words. Thank you.

No. We can not allow the incarceration of whistle-blowers.

  4. Right now, the treatment of choice for even INTERNAL whistle blowers (people who go thru proper internal channels to report fraud, waste, abuse, theft, secual misconduct, treason, etc. is: ignore/brush off the complaint, spend time, money, effort to concoct a false counter accusation with fabricated evidence, have Security conduct fraudulent abd slanderous interviews of coworkers and social contacts to ruin the person’s work and social reputation, start gossip flowing, then report the gossip government agents planted as fact, yse those false facts to fire the person. In the case of such agancues as the National Securiry Agency, where sexual predation is rampant, whole office are dedicated to the fabrication of false countercharges and falsified evidence in order to protect a cabal of degenerate managers from being exposed. There, they also employ Security personnel and contractors to stalk, harass, intimidate, threaten anyone daring to file an EEO or IG complaint. The wife of a Security chief “runs” the EEO and illegally reports anyone filing a samaging complaint against a manager to her Security husband, who, with the full blessing of the OIG (Office of the Inspector General), embarks on a months-long harassment campaign if the individual. The individual either folds to the threat tactics, or is pronounced mentally ill by biased, dishonest Security Psychologists, who BTW, are bottom of the barrel recruits whose bad grades or depraved behavior makes them unemployable elsewhere. One such female psychologist was fired from a nearby mental institution in Jessup for: a) abusing psychotropic drugs on premesis for recreational purposes, b) engaging in lewd, homosexual activity also on premesis with another female psychologist – who thereafter was also fired and then hired with her by NSA. The real NSA psychologists from the med center are FORBIDDEN to render a second opinion about the mental health of a person targeted by NSA Security. Its the Soviet Union all over again. The NSA gas indeed “looked into the abyss and had the abyss look back, and become possessed by the evil it once fought. And THESE are the people now transitioning us to a police state where they focus their efforts inward on US citizens as THE enemy.

    Not good.

  6. WOW I was once employed by the NSA at the time a great orgamization after the military service I decided to join the private sector and work. I am glad I did but also sad after hearing hearing about the corruption there. Knowing me I would have made a differennce. But that was not Gods will I can see looking back. The salvation the Jesus Christ offers was my destiny and communication of that message Gods will visit VLBWELL on youtube.com

  7. Waterboarding a confession out of an alleged "terrorist" is as useless as dunking a woman underwater until she confesses to being a witch. Which, come to think of it, is what society did centuries ago when everyone believed the earth was flat and disease was caused by "demons" instead of viral or bacterial infections. The US government is trying to turn the clock back to a time of darkness and ignorance.
