Someone spotted a rare spider. He reported it to someone. Eventually, the government decide that a highway construction project had to be stopped. The spider in part of an endangered species.
The project is supposed to cost $15 million. That was before they found the spider.
This is in San Antonio, Texas.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Federal Highway Administration must put their collective heads together to figure out a way to build the project without threatening the spider’s habitat.
The Texas Department of Transportation brought in biologists to stud\y the problem.
This is the second time in history that anyone has reported seeing this species of spider.
Taxpayers will pay for this. So will people who don’t like driving in traffic.
The spider may kill the project.
My thanks to Elaine Kolodziej/Publisher, Wilson County News, for this gem.
