A Spider Shuts Down a Multimillion Dollar Highway Development

Written by Gary North on October 3, 2012

Someone spotted a rare spider. He reported it to someone. Eventually, the government decide that a highway construction project had to be stopped. The spider in part of an endangered species.

The project is supposed to cost $15 million. That was before they found the spider.

This is in San Antonio, Texas.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Federal Highway Administration must put their collective heads together to figure out a way to build the project without threatening the spider’s habitat.

The Texas Department of Transportation brought in biologists to stud\y the problem.

This is the second time in history that anyone has reported seeing this species of spider.

Taxpayers will pay for this. So will people who don’t like driving in traffic.

The spider may kill the project.

My thanks to Elaine Kolodziej/Publisher, Wilson County News, for this gem.

  1. Madness. Insanity.

  2. "Of how much more value then is a man than a sheep [or a spider]!" (Matthew 12:12)

  3. This is what comes from rejecting the God of the Bible's morality as codified in His perfect law and altogether righteous judgments (Psalm 9:7-11).

For how Yahweh's law applies today under the New Covenant, see "Law and Kingdom: Their Relevance Under the New Covenant" at http://www.missiontoisrael.org/law-kingdom.php.

  4. How did they know it was rare? Is it native to that area? Sounds like a scam to steal more money.

  5. Ekolodziej says:

From today's San Antonio Express-News: Report says S.A. drivers paying price: $1,426 a year (because of traffic congestion –while a $15 million project must be reworked to save a blind spider that no knew was there).

  6. My arachnophobia answer to this problem: SMASH!!!
Spider gone, problem solved………..continue the construction, please!

  7. They have already taken the only spider known to be there to some lab but if other spiders are found why not jest relocate the spiders. I can't believe the stupid people that runs these agency's and it makes me wonder if any of them ever spent a day in School or worse had any common sense.

  8. the somebody that found the spider should have quickly taken care of it. Project continues on schedule, no problem!

  9. They were reporting on the news last night that they killed and dissected that one spider to make sure it was what they thought it was but are still delaying the project in case some of its relatives might still be in the area. How about a massive bug spray campaign by my fellow San Antonioans. Come on, friend and neighbors, lets play some Bug Kill games. Some woman, I was going to use a term which Mr. North apparently doesn't allow, said some jackass remark about how they might eventually find the cure for cancer from that spider or some other worthy use so they can't take a chance of killing any others if they are even there. Could be a one item mutation, with no others that exist. The creepy thing was blind, and I think they said clear, which sure sounds like a mutation to me, so the chances are as great that there are no more as the chance that there are more.

  10. I knew a fellow in San Antonio who had an investment property piece that he was offered several million for and in the environmental study they found some endangered bird nested on part of the property so they told him he could not sell it, so he paid all the kids he came across $5 per stray cat and transported them out there and kept them hungry enough that he hoped they would kill off the endangered birds. While I found that hilarious, it didn't work, but God stepped in and when they had a horrible fire nearby at some tire dump that lasted for months that did kill off the endangered birdies and the man was able to sell his property. He had nothing to do with the fire but it sure worked out for him.
And for years in San Antonio we have had to ration our water usage every summer because if the huge aquifer gets below a certain level a springs in near by San Marcos which feeds off the same aquifer would likely dry up, at least temporarily, and some useless sand darters live in those springs and might die, so some judge decided that several million people can ration their water usage so the little sand darters aren't harmed or God forbid, die off. I suggested to a friend of mine on the Edwards Underground Water board that someone just needed to find something to throw in the water that only kills sand darters and that would take care of that problem.

  11. Robert Alexander says:

These same people are doing the same as some self righteous do:
Matthew 23.24 Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel.

YET the same double mindedness will say that it's OKAY for babies to be murdered within the protective womb. The same who say that there is NO harm for homosexual acts… yet BOTH of the latter has been scientifically shown to CAUSE harm.

What a PERVERSE world view who grasps any idea but those of Yahweah.

A two way street or sword if you will:
Psalms 101.4 A froward heart shall depart from me: I will not know a wicked person.
Proverbs 11.20 They that are of a froward heart are abomination to the LORD : but such as are upright in their way are his delight.

  12. Someone needs to hit the stupid worker who reported the spider along side his head with a shovel ,,,,

  13. John Englehutt says:

Robert, let me just say AMEN! Your point about it being okay with the anti-Christ crowd to murder pre-born babies and promote sodomy and sexual perversion is spot-on; they'll do or encourage others to do such things without batting an eye, but wait!–it's a rare spider! STOP EVERYTHING! I guess, according to the warped worldview of the extremists of such stripe, mankind had better just relocate to the moon so the poor spiders and insects can live in peace!
This is pretty far from God's Dominion mandate, given to Adam and renewed with Noah, for mankind to "Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.' (Genesis 1:28).

  14. Gene W 1938 says:

We are green enough! Some patriot should spray and rid the area of spiders. Make them extinct!

  15. We're not Hindu here in the U.S…, at least not your average highway worker.

"So are the paths of all who forget God; And the hope of the godless will perish, whose confidence is fragile, and whose trust is a spider's web." Job 8

  16. Just step on the GD spider and move on…next…
