$72 Billion of Tax Money Spent on Global Non-Warming

Written by Gary North on May 21, 2012

Remember when global warming was called global warming? You know: back in 2001, before a decade elapsed in which there was no measurable global warming.

It’s not called global warming any longer. That was just too embarrassing, because there hasn’t any global warming for a decade. This stable temperature has taken place, despite the fact that worldwide emissions of carbon dioxide are higher.

In light of the 2010 data, global carbon dioxide emissions have risen by fully a third since the year 2001, yet global temperatures have not risen during the past decade. Global warming activists argue that carbon dioxide emissions are the sole or primary factor in global temperature changes, yet global temperatures show no change despite a 33% increase in global carbon dioxide emissions.

So, the anti-warmers changed tactics. They invented a new threat: climate change.

Mankind is responsible for climate change, we are told. Therefore, the U.S. government is required to spend money to combat it, all over the world. It has no jurisdiction outside the United States, but that has not dimmed the hopes and plans of warmers

The U.S. government has spent over $72 billion to combat climate change since 2008.

This has failed. The climate keeps changing. Sometimes it’s warmer. Sometimes it’s cooler. It it refuses to cease changing.

This means that taxpayers must still be compelled by the government to do their fair share.

The armed services has spent $4 billion of the $72 billion. This is because the militay is facing a real threat because of climate change. We know this because Secretary of Defense of Defense Panetta has told us so.

Panetta told an audience at the Environmental Defense Fund that climate change has raised the need for humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, hitting national security in the process.

“The area of climate change has a dramatic impact on national security,” Panetta said. “Rising sea levels, severe droughts, the melting of the polar caps, the more frequent and devastating natural disasters all raise demand for humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.”

What we need is an ecologically kinder and gentler military. We need Army green to mean what it symbolizes.

In recent years, the Defense Department and the services have spearheaded a number of alternative-energy initiatives and seemingly embraced environmentally friendly practices on the battlefield.

President Obama effectively put the Pentagon at the forefront of an ambitious alternative energy strategy during the State of the Union speech in January. The Navy and Air Force have already spent billions to integrate biofuels into their fleets of fighter jets and warships.

Marine Corps combat units in Afghanistan are using mobile solar panels to recharge batteries for their night vision and communications in the field. Solar power is also helping to run a number of Marine Corps combat outposts in the country.

As yet, there are no solar-powered tanks, solar-powered bombers, or solar-paneled aircraft carriers. But you never know. There might be a breakthrough one of these days. Let’s hope we get such a breakthrough before we boil/freeze to death.

  1. calypsoman says:

I think you are rather astonishingly myopic and tunnel-visioned if you honestly believe that global warning due to our use and abuse of certain products is not occurring. Even if you believe it isn't so, and you would have to from another planet to believe otherwise, isn't it better to err on the side of safety and precaution rather than wait until the human race is almost annihilated?

  2. Max Penn says:

it's more likly that the 33% increase in global carbon dioxide emissions is do to the massacre of the rain forests around the world..

  3. G aaron says:

Hey calipsoman start paying attention to facts the fact is there is no sufficient data to back up your ridiculous claims. There has been no temp change in 10 years wise up pinhead.

  4. Robin Miller says:

Why don't you fill us in on the safety issue of which you speak? Is it safe to jeopardize our well-being less important than the false rhetoric spewed by the environmentalists. There is NO PROOF that mankind is affecting the global climate. All of the nonsense is generated to keep people like you unaware of the real problems of the world. The idea that global climate change has been used for several decades now to convince the public that the Government is the all knowing force of humanity. When in reality the governments are using it to subjugate rob the world population of freedom and dignity. Wake up to the fact that you like many others are willing to take the word of government over the word of scientists.

  5. Gene Poole says:

Your just going aganist the entire scientific community in saying there's no global warming – all but the scisntist's that get a fat check from the lobby's that is LOL

  6. Gene Poole says:

So the enemy is government, not corporations? Only problem with that is, government now IS the corporation's LOL

  7. You mean the scientific community that has been lying to us? The community that not only withheld emails but "doctored" the data!!! Where were you when all of this became public last year with even NASA fessing up to the hoax?

Why is it that when anybody disagrees with you, you attack them instead of quoting facts that have been discussed by BOTH sides of the scientific community, faced peer review, and have been independently verified according the test of falsability?

  8. G aaron says:

    Right on Robin excellent!!!

  9. Bill McCroskey says:

Any researcher whose ideas/facts question the validity of climate change (fka global warming) are fired or shuffled off to obscurity by most institutions. The majority of these institutions are funded by our tax dollars. Simply put … if you don't toe the 'green' party's line … you are fired. That will give the public and government some real unbiased research. [tongue firmly in cheek]

  10. 2WarAbnVet says:

Never try to explain the facts to true believers in the "Church of AlGore"; people have to believe in something. If no proven religion proves satisfactory, why not just make one up?

  11. erik osbun says:

The fundamental flaw in the argument of any "climate change" lobby is that man causes climate change. That is NOT TRUE.

  12. The left is trying to so hatd to screw up this nation for good. Good news for the rest of us its never going to work, the left won’t be able to finish what they started. As long as the people stay together and continue to report the TRUTH the left will always be the ones telling the lies.

  13. John G. says:

Al Gore needs to shut up about ‘global warming/climate change’ and start talking about chemtrails.

The damn particulate — tiny airborne fibers — is getting really bad here in SoCal.

Try the ‘grape juice/red wine stain-and-spit’ test: gargle with grape juice or red wine for 30 seconds or so, and spit out into a clean, white porcelain sink. Note the red-stained fibers. Repeat, same result. Repeat, again, same result. You never clear all the fibers, despite doing this day after day.

Damn Air Force/contractor tankers are spraying this junk — I collected some in a Mason jar filled with water, set outside — which is shorter and finer than carpet fibers.

  14. If the changes in the earth's atmosphere, the disappearance of the polar ice caps, the inexplicable weather phenomenon and rise in number/severity of natural disasters aren't enough to make you right-wing nutjobs understand, then nothing will. Leave the science to the professionals and go back to hiding under your tin foil hats. It's obviously too much for your brains to comprehend.

  15. ProundPatriotToo says:

Panetta, just another Obama's houseboy/yes man. One thousand and six yawn moment. What's new. You can clock these idiots by the sun coming up every day. Except for Global warming day. Ha! Ha!.

  16. CapnOver says:

GASP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Say it isn't so!! You mean that that most eminent scientist of all times, Algore, was wrong about global warming? Oh, the humanity!!!

  17. G aaron says:

Come on Shane there is nothing to back up those claims ill keep my tin foil hat u keep your dunce cap

  18. Randy G says:

HAS ANYONE COSIDERED THAT ANY WARMING WE ARE DOING IS COUNTERING THE NEXT ICE AGE THAT IS COMING IN?Otherwise people will realize the only warming is in Arizona while we get snow in the north & east.

  19. Climate Change, this way it'a win win. If it gets warm or nit get cool, then like little babies you'll hear "I told you so,I told you so".Are they the same bong holes back in the 70's I guess it was, they keep saying New York would be under ice.Didn't get anywhere with that so they changed their tune. Looks like their doing it again, I guess the money is slowing down, got to come up with some changes in the script to keep the show on the air and keep their sponsors.

  20. It’s one thing to err on the side of caution, and another to throw our money at useless projects. I doubt if you would err on the side of caution when it comes to real national security issues like terrorism.

  21. Mighty Bulldog says:

There have been massive climate changes in the past before the industrial revolution, and there will be more in the future, with or without mankind's input. Look up at that bright orb in the sky. What happens there really effects the climate here. Also, the galactic effects of mutual attraction of neighboring stars on the earth's orbit changes the length of winter vs summer, etc.. Climate is not a simple thing as you may imagine. Man may indeed have a small input on climate change, but very little in the macro-sense. But that is certainly not sufficient reason to destroy our economy, and redistribute our wealth to poorer countries.

  22. Eureopeans weren't the only humans before the Industrial Revolution. Plenty of people, such as those in the Americas, were thriving and burning fuel while Europeans languished in desperate poverty.

"Also, the galactic effects of mutual attraction of neighboring stars on the earth's orbit changes the length of winter vs summer . . ."

Please tell me that was tongue-in-cheek.

  23. Huapakechi says:

Let me invite you up here to Northwest Minnesota to enjoy a few weeks of Winter. We've just had the worst sledding of any year since I arrived here in 1993, and temps still dropped below -20 on more than one occasion.

  24. Intolerant of Fools says:

I bet the Tea Party and their allies, the GOP congress, will be blaming and pointing, the finger, at everyone else for global warming, once it starts getting worse.

  25. eDDIE jOHNSON says:

Steve, you asked why? It is because the libs can ignore facts and figures that show the absurdity of their position. They KNOW they are always right because they are so much more intelligent than we are and so much better informed. And more importantly, they can never admit they have been wrong instead they will find or create something or someone else to blame So with no verifiable facts to back them up and no legitimate argument all they have left is the personal attack Liberal Demorats have made a living doing this for as long as I can remember, it is the nature of the beast and they aren't going to change anytime soon. The best defense is to vote them out of positions of influance. ANYBODY BUT OBAMA 2012

  26. If all of you pinheads were as observant as you profess, you would note how many major volcanic eruptions have occurred in the las twenty years and that within the last 4 years the active volcano number went from 434 to 464. Go read the book "The Year Without a Summer, 1816". Continued —-

  27. Continued from Previous – – – It was caused by a super volcano in the southern hemisphere who's ash and gas came across the Pacific and entering the Northern Hemisphere in the US and went on over Northern Europe. Over a 100,000 people died in the US from starvation (no crops maturing) and 1-1/2 million in northern Europe. Preceding the French Revolution the Icelandic volcanos caused 2 years of weather devastation and crop failures causing starvation and death while the elite squandered the food supplies. Continued

  28. Continued – -Keep looking throughout history and you will find mother nature has the upper hand in such weather changes and the advent that we now have more recorded active volcanos on earth than ever spewing out emense amounts of gas and CO2 and ash (which when it land on snow and ice in the summer season where there is 23.5 hours of sun causing melting), and the 3 day volume of one volcano equals one year of man's CO2 output, go figure where the money is being spent! It isn't wisely, but to support liberal accademics who no longer have lucrative corp research projects so they want to create something and stick it to the taxpayer just like the lawyers are doing. Time to shut down the money source to these lyars and cheats. Mother nature is changing predictable based on past history. I want to see how these academics are going to control earthquakes and volcanos. Magic? Volumous piles of useless paper? Go figure people.

  29. […] we are still spending money on this nonsense. (?, ??, and ya just gotta read this one to see how the other half thinks??? WHAT a bunch of […]
