I bought an iPad 2 today. It was not easy. These people almost blew Black Friday.
For two hours, the order page was missing in action. This was not the way to start Black Friday.
Then the order page appeared. It had two prices. The retail price ($499), with the sales price next ($458) in the ORDER box, but without the $28 case listed.
Then I clicked to order. Only then was the $28 case listed.
I really wanted the product. It was a hassle to buy it. But at least I got two articles out of it: this one and the full story. If you want the full story, read my article, “Out to Lunch.” Click the link.
I myself had a taste of their computer problem, even though I purchased my computers on Wednesday.
I ordered the iMac, iPad etc.. to be picked up Wednesday afternoon at the local Apple store. I went to pick them up, but had to wait about a half hour to get the paperwork done, because their Network was down.
I finally got my gear, got it installed yesterday, and I will be doing my blogging from my 27" iMac and on the road via my iPad2.
Ever think that the website was overwhelmed by activity? I work for a major online retailer, and the servers were so overwhelmed by people waiting and buying online that the customer service representatives experienced an overload of technical problems with providing service for the customers, which didn't help the situation at all when customers called in to complain about it. So, it was a double-edged sword.
Now THAT's what I call finding a silver lining behind the cloud! 2 articles, eh?
I'm thinking, I don't want an iPad that badly – I'll wait till it's cheaper. Like the DVD I just bought for $1.97! 🙂 And I didn't even have to fight off grouchy shoppers for it! I was just doing my usual monthly grocery shopping…woo hoo!

This Gary North fellow is a total and complete whiner! The problems he experienced had NOTHING to do with Steve Jobs being alive or dead, the servers were overloaded as Im sure the personnel were. Maybe when the website didnt show the correct price he should have called a rep. instead of bashing Apple because they have popular products & in the crunch leading up to this joke called "black friday" someone (possibly) messed up the price on the website. By the way Gary why dont you spend some time making yourself a better website instead of downloading a bunch of images from Apple to show you dont know how to buy things online!
I would argue that Apple DID blow Black Friday with their idea of a "sale" being $41 off, that's less than 10%. Big whoop. Glad I stopped buying Apple products when they started seeing customers as morons with more money than sense. Been about 16 years now….LOL
That makes sense. Because we all know the PURPOSE of a website is so we can make phone calls. LMAO You are totally one of the pretentious idiots that thinks having an Apple product means you're "cool". A website is there to WORK, as a business point of sale it needs to work RELIABLY. Apple makes millions upon millions of dollars in profit from useless idiots like yourself, they then pay other useless idiots to run and maintain the website. If someone messed up the price or the code or anything, that's called doing a bad job.
keep your apple products they are ripping you people off big time. every few months come out with new models. the ipad i5 phone will be out next month ,keep buying suckers. i will stay with my pc .
I wanted to buy an iPAD2 at Walmart which of course they show for sale on the web site, and have it sent to our local store for pick-up. But guess what…they don't HAVE site to store pick-up (for the iPAD) at ANY of the many Walmarts near us! Not at even ONE. And they won't deliver it to my house so I sent them a letter asking HOW the heck they expected to even sell them? I've used site to store so many times with great results and can't figure out WHY not the iPAD2 also.
I'm not going to purchase at Apple. I'll get mine from Verizon since I have their service and will use their service for the iPAD2 also. I'm hoping to get a better price. I HOPE I don't have a problem getting it from them. I've waited a LONG time for one and really want to avoid any more hassles.
I would have thought of that. But a company as big as Apple should have BOOKOO more than enough size to handle the (undoubtedly expected) huge response. It pretty much amazes me that by now Apple or any other highly popular company raking in huge profits wouldn't purchase MORE than enough in servers or bandwidth, etc, what ever they need to service the undoubtedly predictable influx of online consumers! Glad I didn't attempt to purchase one then.
Totally agree.
I still use a PC also and don't intend to change that. But I DO want an iPAD2 and have waited for a couple of years for one. Hope I like it…
I'd love to get a tablet in the 10 inch model, but you guys are right, the IPAD just seems a bit pricey compared to what the other models offer.
Good point Doc. Better to stay with PC because they don't "come out with new models" every few months like the money-grubbers over at Apple. Do you have any idea what Moore's law is? Do you have any idea how the computer industry works? It is ALWAYS in a state of upgrade. If there are certain people who will buy every new product that Apple puts out, it seems to me that Apple would be stupid to NOT put a new product every few months. Keep on living your Bill Gates inspired delusion….
